Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: Only over one week, two major cancer surgeries have been performed in two senior citizens using laparoscope ensuring minimal access by Surgery Department of GB Pant Hospital, ANIIMS. The first case was of a 67-year-old lady, who was presented with recurrent pain in abdomen and vomiting. She was diagnosed with a condition wherein one part of the intestine slides into the adjacent part of the intestine. Further, her condition was assessed using State of Art diagnostic procedure at GB Pant Hospital itself, which revealed a large tumor growth in large intestine. On 16th September, a team of Super Specialist Surgeons, headed by Dr. Saji Vargheese performed an advanced surgery using a laparoscope to remove the tumour ensuring minimum surgical incision.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29:  The newly established dialysis unit at Apollo Clinic, Garacharma, is now operational and available to the residents of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The unit offers life-saving hemodialysis treatment for individuals suffering from kidney failure.

Hemodialysis is crucial for patients whose kidneys can no longer filter waste and excess fluids from the blood. It helps regulate essential minerals like potassium, sodium, calcium, and bicarbonate, while also managing blood pressure.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: Dr. S. Radhakrishnan District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Garacharma, conducted a 4-day Training-cum-Workshop for PT-PSTs and PPTs from South Andaman and Wimberlygunj Educational Zones from Sept. 25 to 28, 2024. The module-based workshop focused on implementing the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) for Foundational Stage 2023, equipping participants with the latest NCF FS components.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: The first-ever Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station (CAAQMS) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was inaugurated at VIP Road near ITF Ground, Sri Vijaya Puram, South Andaman. This Station is part of a nationwide initiative by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), New Delhi to install CAAQMS in all States and Union Territories (UTs) to monitor real-time air quality. The initiative aims to provide timely and accurate data on air pollution levels, enabling better environmental management.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: As part of the celebration of Physiotherapy Day, 2024, the CRC A&N Islands organized an awareness programme titled ‘Osteoarthritis: Its Management and Recent Advancements’ on September 26, 2024, at Lecture Hall 2 of ANIIMS. The programme was aimed at enlightening Nursing Students from the School of Nursing, Physiotherapists, and Healthcare Professionals. The programme was held in collaboration with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) and the School of Nursing, Directorate of Health Services (DHS).
