Port Blair, May 1: As part of the ongoing ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ commemorating the 75 Years of India’s independence and complying to the directions of the Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBs, all Gram Panchayats in the Islands, today conducted massive clean-up drives under Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen towards its vision to eradicate all types of wastes, to ensure proper Solid and Liquid Waste Management and to make all rural areas visibly clean to realize the goal of Zero Waste Islands. PRI member, officials, civil society members actively took part in the drives.

Port Blair, May 1: During the RT-PCR test conducted on 196 passengers who arrived here yesterday, no positive case has been detected. Today, 18 flights with 2337 passengers arrived, out of which, 2063 passengers were vaccinated with both doses while RT-PCR test was conducted on 201 passengers and the reports are awaited. 

Port Blair, April 29: The CPI (M) today staged a mass demonstration in front of the office of the Superintending Engineer, Electricity Department at Port Blair at 4.45 p.m. to protest against the frequent power disruptions in the Port Blair town and rural South Andaman areas. Taking into consideration the social distancing norms, etc., only limited number of party leaders and workers participated in the programme. 

Port Blair, April 29: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Administration to provide uninterrupted power supply and to find the faults and take necessary measures to stop such power cuts.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that he has been approached by a large number of parents, business owners, local youths and the general public, who have raised serious concerns over frequent power cuts in the South Andaman region.

Port Blair, April 29: The District Child Protection Unit under District Administration, South Andaman conducted an awareness program on “POCSO Act and Child Protection” in collaboration with Police Station, Shaheed Sweep at Govt. Sr. Sec. School Shaheed Dweep on 29th April 2022.

The District Child Protection Officer, South Andaman briefed the children about the role of District Child Protection Unit in Child Protection and highlighted various structures and details of Institutions working for Child Protection.
