Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 30: As part of Anti Leprosy Day observance, a function was held today in the Auditorium of ANIIMS, in which, the Director of Health Services In-charge, Dr. Siddaraju, CMO (NFSG) was the chief guest. In his address, the chief guest spoke on social aspects of Leprosy and also on the present scenario of Leprosy in these Islands and appealed to the audience gathered in the hall to disseminate the scientific facts about Leprosy amongst the masses. This year, SPARSH Leprosy Awareness Campaign 2025 has been launched with the theme ‘Together let us raise awareness, dispel misconceptions & ensure that no one affected by Leprosy is left behind’.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 29: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, inaugurated the ‘Avsar SHG Sales Counter’ today, marking a significant milestone in empowering Self Help Groups (SHGs) of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM). The event held at the Departure Conclave of VSI Airport was attended by Shri Arjun Sharma, Secretary (RD), Shri Devender Yadav, Director of VSI, AAI and Smt. Sapna Priya, Director (RD).

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 29: The 42nd Death Anniversary of veteran trade union leader Comrade PKS Prasad was observed throughout the Andaman & Nicobar Islands today (29th January, 2025). Main function was jointly organised by CITU and Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association at Crusade House premises at Phoenix Bay, Port Blair. KG Das, former General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association presided over the function. Addressing the gathering, he recalled the valiant struggles conducted by Com PKS Prasad in these islands. Speaking on the occasion, R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee briefly explained the movements conducted by Com PKS Prasad since his arrival in these islands in 1964 on deputation from Nagpur.

Given the extensive potential for development of Tourism and Hospitality projects, discussed evolving mechanisms to share best practices on both sides.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 29: Road Safety is a matter of prime importance due to alarming increase in the number of Road accidents and increase in the resultant fatalities. As per the direction of Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, a lead agency for Road Safety Secretariat has been established by the UT Administration consisting of Officials from Transport, Police, Education, APWD and Health Departments.
