Social Worker from Hope Town Raises Concern Before Lt. Governor, Demands a Planned Solution

Port Blair, Jan 31: Social worker, VD Leju (LG Commendation Awardee for Social Work) in a letter to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor has raised the issue of rising stray dog menace in various parts of the islands. In the letter, the Social Worker mentioned that of late, there has been a sudden increase in cases of attack by dogs on livestock besides attack on humans too.

There have been numerous cases of free-ranging canines attacking pedestrians and motorists besides causing financial loss to people by killing goats, ducks and hens. Most of the cases go unreported as they are treated as isolated incidents!

Andaman & Nicobar Islands runs accurately parallel to the boundary separating the Australian and Eurasian plates in the Indian Ocean that are continuously jostling with each other. These Islands are mostly susceptible to very high intensity of seismicity and as per the seismic zoning map of India contained in IS 1893 -1984, Islands are classified in seismic Zone - V.

Port Blair, Jan. 31: The District Administration with the assistance of State Authority, NDRF & other line Departments organized a Mock Exercise yesterday at Junglighat, Fish Landing Centre on the Scenario ‘Earthquake, followed by Tsunami’. During the mock exercise, the alert message of Earthquake & Subsequent Tsunami was passed to all the Nodal Officers of line Departments and a Control Room was set up in the District Control Room, South Andaman.

Port Blair, Jan 31: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, South Andaman organized an awareness programme on natural farming at Shoal Bay on 30.01.2023. Mr A. R. Kumar, Pradhan, Shoal Bay Gram Panchayat was chief guest of the programme.

In his addres the chief guest advised the farming community that over usage of fertilizers and pesticides causes environmental damage and impacted in human and soil health. Avoidance of agro-chemicals like fertilizers and pesticides in the field will prevent run off into water source and also preserve our fragile ecosystem.
