Tushnabad, Nov. 20: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), celebrated International Child Rights Day in collaboration with the Gram Panchayat, Tushnabad, at Panchayat Bhavan, Tushnabad.

The occasion was graced by Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, Director, IP&T, Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, and Shri Carper James, Tehsildar, Ferrargunj.

Chauldari, Nov 20: Under the visionary leadership of Smti Alka Lamba Ji, National President of All India Mahila Congress, the Andaman and Nicobar Pradesh Mahila Congress organized a Sanitary Pad Distribution Programme at Chauldari village to commemorate the 107th birth anniversary of India’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi Ji. The event paid tribute to her enduring legacy and her relentless commitment to women’s health, empowerment, and well-being.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 20: At the call given by the CPI (M) Central Committee, the Port Blair City Area Committee of the party has conducted corner meetings at various places of Sri Vijaya Puram town on 16th and 18th November, 2024. The issues highlighted during the programme were (1) against price rise, (2) against one nation one election proposal, (3) crimes against women (4) unemployment, etc. Various local issues like (a) power cut, (b) user charge of Rs. 1,000 for collection of un-segregated waste imposed by Municipal Council, (c) deplorable condition of urban and rural roads, etc were highlighted during the corner meetings. 

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 20: Zoological Survey of India, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre is conducting a Three Day Training workshop on Coastal and Marine Biodiversity of Island Ecosystem under the Training of Other Stakeholders sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India to be held during 21st – 23rd November 2024. This training workshop will be attended by 22 teachers, students and members of Zilla Parishad. The three-day training workshop includes class rooms teaching and field visit to Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, Wandoor; Chidiyatappu Biological Park, besides hands on training on the intertidal marine biodiversity at Bumanella, South Andaman. 

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 20: Following the directives of the Election Commission of India, the Annual Summary Revision (ASR) of the electoral roll has officially commenced from October 20, 2024. This critical initiative seeks to ensure the accuracy, inclusivity, and comprehensiveness of the electoral roll.

To foster stakeholder participation, the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman)/District Election Officer (South Andaman), along with the Electoral Roll Observer, convened a meeting with representatives of political parties. During the meeting, the DC/DEO briefed attendees on the schedule and significance of the claims and objections period under SSR-2025.
