Port Blair, Dec. 13: Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament on 9-12-2022 (Friday) raised a very important issue in the Parliament under rule 377 regarding the poor healthcare system in the Islands.

He emphasized that for any major health issue the Islanders are referred to referral hospitals at Chennai or Kolkata. Prior to the introduction of Ayushman Bharat scheme, the local Administration of Andaman & Nicobar Islands used to have ANISHI scheme.

Port Blair, Dec. 13: During his recent visit to Delhi, Shri. M. Vinod, President, AATO has submitted a representation to Shri. Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Shri. Kishan Reddy, Union Tourism Minister to permit new water sports activities in A&N Islands.

Water Sports activities play a vital role in promoting tourism in these remote islands. These activities are also a major source of employment for the local youth of these islands. However, in the recent past, there have been multiple administrative issues with the permissions for these activities. An expression of interest for running these activities was being drafted, but the same has not been feasible.

Hut Bay, Dec. 13: Acting on a specific intelligence input received from reliable source, Police team from Central Crime Station consisting of Inspr S. Kannan, SI M.A Rasheed, Constables K. Rajendran & Raja Rao arrested one person namely Swapan Biswas S/o Late Rashik Biswas, resident of R.K Pur, Little Andaman on 10/12/2022. 1.020 Kgs of Meth Amphetamine was recovered and seized after observing all codal formalities from accused which was clandestinely concealed behind house.

Port Blair, Dec. 13: The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has launched the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on September 9, 2022 which was envisioned to bring together all community stakeholders (Ni-kshay Mitra/Donor) to support those on TB treatment, help to accelerate the country’s progress towards TB elimination and to make this campaign a mass movement.

Port Blair, Dec. 13: The five-day training course on Para-taxonomy including People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) for the frontline staff of Department of Environment and Forests has inaugurated by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Andaman & Nicobar Islands in Zoological Survey of India, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre, Port Blair today.

Shri. Kamal Datta, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Andaman & Nicobar Islands was the Chief Guest, while Dr. S. Senthil Kumar, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), and Shri. Sanjay Waradkar, IFS, Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Department of Environment and Forests, Andaman & Nicobar Islands were the Guests of Honour. The programme was also attended by Officers from Department of Environment and Forests, Fishery Survey of India, Botanical Survey of India, Pondicherry University. The inaugural function has started with a prayer song and lighting of traditional lamp.  Total of 45 frontline staff from different divisions across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have registered for this workshop.
