Port Blair, June 15: The vaccination drive is continuing smoothly in A&N Islands. As per the data received from Health Department, a total of 1, 33, 595 beneficiaries have been vaccinated so far in A&N Islands. A total of 1053 people were vaccinated today in A&N Islands while the number of eligible people vaccinated in the age group of 18 to 44 years stood at 14, 029 in isles. 636 beneficiaries were vaccinated in South Andaman District, out of which, 572 were in the age group of 18-44 years. In N&M Andaman, 310 beneficiaries were vaccinated, out of which 299 were in the age group of 18-44 years while the remaining were above 45. In Nicobar District, 107 beneficiaries in the age group of 18-44 years were vaccinated.

Port Blair, June 15: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma today felicitated the corpse-burners by presenting shawls and sweets. On the occasion the MP lauded their efforts and said “corpse burning is one of the most difficult work you people have been doing”. The task of burning a corpse is an arduous work as sometimes, the corpse-burners have to work for 10 to 15 hours burning several bodies in the same day. 

Port Blair, June 15: Residents from Campbell Bay today met the Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma at the MP Office. They brought to the notice of the MP about the difficulties faced by the about 500 residents due to non-operation of ships to Campbell Bay. The MP informed them that he has taken up the matter with the Chief Secretary and soon ships will leave Port Blair for Campbell Bay.

Port Blair, June 15: Based on the inputs that due to stringent action by the police against illicit liquor, some people might have shifted their fermentation setup in the jungle areas, teams led by SI Suresh (SHO/Kalighat) have been conducting search in the jungle areas of OP Kishorinagar. In such search operations, police has found and destroyed about 1000 litres of Lahan in last 3 days. The police officers are aware of the fact that any delay in action on the information about such activities may lead to supply of illicit liquor to the public, that is why the search is being continued even though the weather is not good.

Port Blair, June 15: On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, Yuva Bharat Samaj Seva Charitable Trust had organized a voluntary Blood Donation Camp at Blood Bank at G.B. Pant Hospital in association with Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS). The camp was organized under the leadership of Dr. Kodand Ram, Chief Medical officer, Blood Bank, G.B. Pant Hospital and Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, A&N AIDS Control Society.
