Port Blair, Jan 12: A cargo dinghy said to have been returning from Swaraj Dweep (Havelock) capsized near the North Bay. Reports gathered indicate that the dinghy loaded with hundreds of LPG cylinders had capsized on the 9th of January 2021. However the matter was not informed to the Indian Coast Guard for SAR operation.

Incidents of Pigeons Dying Reported in the City
Port Blair, Jan 12: There have been reports of death of large number of birds including migratory birds from several parts of the country. The preliminary reports indicate that it is a case of Avian Influenza Virus. Considering the grave situation, the Government of India has requested the States/ UTs to take all possible measures / precautions to prevent the transmission of diseases, if any, in other animals/ birds and human beings.

Port Blair, Jan 12: To celebrate the 97th International Innerwheel Day, the Innerwheel Club of Port Blair had organised a function to felicitate municipal sewage cleaning female workers and caretakers of physically challenged children of Old Age Home, Ferrargunj. Cooking inductions were distributed to them followed by cutting of cake.

Port Blair, Jan 12: The NGO ‘Seeds of Hope’ has appreciated the eleven year old Island girl, Betty Susan Jacob for her generous hair donation for the cancer patients. It was in October 2020 that Betty had donated her hair for the third time in a row, thus making her eligible to claim being the youngest hair donor to have donated hair three times.

Port Blair, Jan 12: A team of Food Safety Officers conducted surprise inspections of hotels, restaurants, dhabas and other food vending premises at Swaraj Dweep from 07th to 09th Jan, 2021. They inspected around 59 restaurants, 04 dhabas and 26 nos. of other food vending establishments and noticed major and minor violations of the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act, Rules and Regulations.
