Port Blair, March 22: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has raised the matter of Setting up a Central University in Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the Parliament session today. The MP mentioned, “The absence of a full-fledged University in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is depriving the students of our Islands since they have limited opportunities and have to travel to mainland for higher education purposes, which is a costly affair. In order to realize the true potential of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, there is a requirement to establish a Central University in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.”

Port Blair, March 22: A major Naval project of ‘Extension of Jetty’ at the Naval Wharf was inaugurated by Vice Admiral SR Sarma, Chief of Materiel of Indian Navy, on 22 March 2021. Port Blair, March 22: The Central Crime Station in its continuous crackdown against illegal Narcotics trade in A&N Islands arrested an air passenger who brought 1.4 Kg of Ganja from Kolkata by Air India flight.

On 17/03/2021, acting on a specific information from reliable source that one person Mohd. Shakir R/o Mithakhari will be arriving from Kolkata to Port Blair by Air India carrying 'contraband ganja' concealed in his bag. A raiding team comprising of SI Bisavjeet Prasad, HC Sanjay Kujur, PCs P.K. Mondal, K. Rajendran and Mohd. Imran deputed at VSI Airport and trap was laid at parking area near VSI Airport Exit gate. The team intercepted Mohd. Shakir and recovered 1.4 Kg of illicit ganja from his possession.

Invites Attention of the Health Ministry on Burning Issues Concerning Health of the Islanders

Port Blair, March 21: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma while debating on demands for grants under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the financial year 2021-22 invited the attention of the House saying that the adequacy of budgetary provision of 2.23 lakhs Crores announced by the Finance Minister while presenting the annual budget for year 2021- 22 need to be considered in wake of the challenges thrown by the COVID-19. Even most developed countries in the world equipped with most advanced medical facilities could not find solution to this widespread pandemic and threat still prevails. Shri Sharma said that in order to spontaneously respond to such unforeseen health crisis, India needs to establish a well knitted network of reliable and affordable primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare service system across the country. Due diligence need to be observed while formulating the budget proposals with sufficient fund allocation, he said.
