Port Blair, March 16: The National Rural Livelihood Mission aims to alleviate rural poverty and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the rural poor especially for rural women. The basic idea behind this programme is to unite the poor into Self Help Group and make them capable for self-employment.

Smti. Hemlata Bala is one such beneficiaries under the NRLM scheme. A resident of Tugapur of Mayabunder she is associated with a Self Help Group namely Sreemoi. She has joined this SHG for the purpose of initiating self-employment, so that she could support her family financially.

Port Blair, March 16: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of Nicobar District organized one day District level Orientation Programme on Gender Budgeting under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) in the Conference Hall of District Library, Car Nicobar on 16th March 2021. Shri. Kishore Kshirsagar Laxman IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District graced the occasion as Chief Guest and inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Port Blair, March 16: In continuation of FSSAI initiative of Eat Right India movement, the Food Safety Department organized series of Food Licensing and Registration Mela in North & Middle Andaman District. 

On 10th March 2021, a mela was organized at Subhashgram village in Diglipur Tehsil and around 208 food business operators participated and were briefed about online licensing & registration of food business through Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal of FSSAI. Live demonstration of uploading application for grant/renewal of FSSAI licenses were carried out.

Port Blair, March 16: The implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin) takes a momentous pace towards realising the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s dream of ‘Housing for All by 2022’ as it reaches the mark of construction of its 600th house in these Islands.

The Department of Rural Development, A&N Administration has been implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin, the flagship scheme of the Government of India across the Islands since the inception of the scheme from 1st April 2016. By providing a pucca house with basic amenities inclusive of a hygienic cooking space to the houseless with financial assistance of Rs.1.2 lakh along with 90 person days of unskilled labour wage amounting to Rs.24,030/- through convergence with Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Additionally, an incentive of Rs.12,000 for construction of toilets through convergence with Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin (SBM-G) is also provided to the beneficiaries.
