A&N Administration Urges Islanders to Follow COVID Appropriate Behaviour and Stay Protected

Port Blair, June 29: The Secretary, IP&T, Shri Sunil Kumar Singh while addressing COVID-19 media briefing held in the conference hall of IP&T here today said that the RTPCR test conducted on 311 flight passengers who arrived yesterday, 1 corona positive case has been detected despite having RTPCR negative test report from mainland. He said that 2 flights with 350 passengers arrived today and their RTPCR reports are awaited.  He also mentioned that 116 persons bound for Middle & North Andaman were tested at Ferrargunj, out of which, 1 person has been detected positive. He urged the people to maintain social distancing and wear mask while venturing out.

Port Blair, June 29: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has congratulated Rev. Fr. Visuvasam Selvaraj on being appointed as the Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of A&N Islands. The MP in a message said that the appointment of Fr. Selvaraj as the Bishop comes as a happy news for the Catholic community of the islands. The appointment was long overdue after the retirement of Bishop Alex Dias, said Kuldeep. The Member of Parliament wished the best to the new Bishop and the Catholic community of the A&N Islands.

Port Blair, June 29: In accordance with the Law of the Roman Catholic Church, His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Visuvasam Selvaraj as the new Bishop of Port Blair Roman Catholic Diocese.

The formal announcement of this appointment was made today 29th June 2021 at 3.30 pm. The date and time of consecration and taking charge of the Bishop will be communicated later, the President, A&N Catholic Association (ANCA) informed today.

Port Blair, June 29: Shri. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Island has written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District requesting him to increase the number of vaccination sites in South Andaman District.
