Port Blair, May 10: The Indian Coast Guard rescued five fishermen from fishing boat MFV ‘KALAMMA’ which was in distress off Bomilla Creek near Hutbay on 9th May 21. The Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters at Port Blair received an unregistered DAT (Distress Alert Transmitter) alert from DAT ID-85068 at around 1100 hrs on 09 May 21. On receipt of information, Indian Coast Guard promptly launched Search and Rescue operation and sailed out Coast Guard Ship C-412 from Hutbay at 1200 hrs for investigation and assistance. Since the alert was activated from an unregistered DAT, the details of the boat and its owner were not available with Indian Coast Guard. The information was immediately shared with Fisheries authorities with a request to provide the details of person/boat issued with said DAT.

Port Blair, May 10: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has brought to the notice of Chief Secretary, A&N Administration that thousands of students of these Islands are pursing higher studies in different States at mainland. Due to the 2nd phase of Covid-19 many States are imposing lockdown due to which their hostels and mess are getting closed. These students don’t have any other place to stay.

Port Blair, May 10: The local Event Management Company ‘4 Seasons’ of lade after the announcement of lockdown has been noticed distributing relief kits to the really needy ones in and around Port Blair city. The company led by Ashwar Singh has so far distributed around 200 such relief kits to the needy.

Port Blair, May 10: Shri. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party has written a letter to the Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi and Health Minister of India Dr. Harsh Vardhan requesting them to release vaccines for Andaman & Nicobar Islands immediately.
Bairagi mentioned that the second wave of COVID-19 is causing a large number of deaths all over India and also in Andaman & Nicobar Islands the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is increasing every day. He mentioned that some experts are now claiming that a third wave of COVID-19 is inevitable, which may cause more health problems for children. The best prevention is to vaccinate the population but Andaman & Nicobar Islands are not getting sufficient number of COVID-19 vaccines for the age group of 18 to 45 years.

Port Blair, May 10: COVID 19 awareness campaign was conducted at various locations like vegetable market and forest check post Bathubasti and Garacharama by members of REVIVE (local NGO).
During the drive, awareness was spread on washing hands, wearing masks, maintaining social distance, eating healthy and to consult a doctor if symptomatic while requesting the 45+ age group to get vaccinated.
