Port Blair, June 10: The Town Vending Committee (TVC) constituted under the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme, 2016 convened a meeting on 09-06-2020 @ 11.00 AM under the chairmanship of the Secretary, PBMC and discussed on kick start of PM Street Vendors AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi). The TVC is also deliberated on identification and declaration of  No- Vending Zones & Restricted Vending Zones of Port Blair City.

In the meeting the Secretary, PBMC informed the Committee that the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affair, Govt. of India vide videoconference held on 08-06-2020 @ 11.00  AM has directed all States and UTs to take up the PM SVANidhi scheme for street vendors on top priority and shall be implemented from July 2020 to March 2022.   Further, the Secretary PBMC added that the Certificate of Vending (CoV) for the 124 Nos.  Identified eligible street vendors will be issued by June 2020 and they can avail the working capital loan from various Banks. The PBMC will facilitate between Bankers and Street vendors to achieve the objectives of PM SVANidhi scheme.

Further, in connection to No-Vending Zone and Restricted Vending Zone, Shri. Ajay Rai, Dy.Superintnding of Police (Traffic), South Andaman informed the committee about the traffic congestion and hindrances of  pedestrian movement owing to occupation of street vendors at  various road stretches of Port Blair City and also in front of Govt. Office, Banks & Educational Institutes. He also requested the Town Vending Committee to classify few stretches as “No Vending / Restricted vending Zones”

The meeting was attended by the members of the Town Vending Committee Dy. SP (Traffic), District Lead Manager, State Bank of India, Residential Association Member &   04  (four) Nos. Street Vendors Members.
