Port Blair, June 10: Frequent complaints were received from the residents of Haddo regarding drainage blockade and subsequent flood like situation in the area during rainy season. This issue was also brought to the knowledge of the Chairperson, PBMC by the members of BJP Yuva Morcha and BJP IT Cell members. The Officials of the Naval Command also has written in this regard to the Civic Chief. 

Acting upon the complaints promptly and in order to get a first-hand look of the situation a team headed by Shri. N.K. Udhaya Kumar, Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal along with Shri. Suneel Anchipakka, IAS, Secretary, PBMC and officials of the Council accompanied by officials of Naval Command  and Members of BJP IT Cell and Yuva Morcha visited the Haddo Area. The Ward Councillior, Shri. S. Karunakaran was also present during the visit.

The Team inspected both the sides of the boundary wall and the path of the major drain which lies between Naval Command and Municipal area. After a brief analysis the team decided to put barricades inside the drain at certain places to hold solid waste from flowing down as the iron barricades in some place were fully damaged. The Civic Chief directed the official’s concerned to take necessary action in this regard at the earliest. The team assured the local residents that the issue will resolved as early as possible.
