Port Blair, March 3: The Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBs, Andaman and Nicobar Administration with an aim to augment the infrastructure arrangements of the Gram Panchayats for effective carrying out of Door to Door segregated collection of waste in accordance to the Rural Areas Solid Waste Management Bye Laws, 2019 has procured 29 battery operated e-Carts from the World Bank Incentive Fund received from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India.

The Secretary (RD),  Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS today flagged off the eCarts and launched the same for deployment in the rural areas of the Gram Panchayat across the three districts in the UT. Shri Vinay Kumar Jindal, Director (RD/Panchayat) and Shri Lakshay Singhal, IAS (P) also graced the occasion.

The eCarts procured under the scheme have separate compartments for collection of Dry and Wet waste and is also fitted with Hydraulic Tipping Facility for convenient unloading of waste. The eCarts will be put to public use with immediate effect and have been handed over to 29 identified Gram Panchayats.

With this arrangement in place, it is ensured that the Gram Panchayats would efficiently be able to manage the Solid Waste collected in rural areas for realising the dream of Zero Waste Islands.
