Port Blair, Aug 25: Andaman & Nicobar Forest Department Workers Union (CITU) has conducted a Mass Demonstration today (25.08.2023) at 4 p.m. in front of the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests at Haddo, Port Blair demanding (i) continuous service for all Daily Rated Mazdoors of Forest Department (ii) Stop treating DRMs as Seasonal Workers (iii) Grant 1/30th of pay to all DRMs of Forest Department (v) Regularise the services of all DRMs of Forest Department, etc. Hundreds of workers of Forest Department working at Port Blair and rural South Andaman areas participated in the mass demonstration.  

Addressing the participants in the mass demonstration, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee warned the authorities in the Forest Department against dis-engagement of any daily rated worker working as on date and said that the CITU and the Unions will launch agitations if the Forest Department discontinue the services of daily rated workers. R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee and SP Kalairajan, General Secretary, A & N Forest Department Workers Union also addressed the gathering.  

The Mass Demonstration was led by D. Ayyappan, President of A & N Forest Department Workers Union, CITU State Secretaries Anand Rajan and M. Yugandar and Jagdhan, Joint Secretary and V. Rushi, Treasurer of the Forest Union.
