Port Blair, Sept. 11: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma on 07.09.2023 called on the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration and highlighted three important issues before him. The issues taken up by the Member of Parliament includes:

1) Timely Salary Disbursement for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers:

During the meeting he informed the Chief Secretary that hundreds of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers, working under the Directorate of Education on a contract basis for many years, have not received their salaries for the past three months, from June to August. “This distressing delay in salary disbursement has caused immense hardship for them and their families,” he added.

The Member of Parliament requested the Chief Secretary to take necessary steps to expedite the release of monthly salaries for the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers as soon as possible.

2) Timely Honorarium Disbursement for PRI Members:

The Member of Parliament informed the Chief Secretary that some PRI members have been facing delays in receiving their honorarium. Specifically, the Pradhan, Ward Members, and Panchayat Samiti members have not received their honorarium for over six months.

He mentioned that this prolonged delay in payments has created significant challenges for these dedicated PRI members. They tirelessly serve our society, and it is essential that their honorariums are dispersed in a timely manner.

The Member of Parliament requested intervention of the Chief Secretary in this matter and urged him to arrange the release of honorariums for PRI members at your earliest convenience.

3) Request to Relocate Polytechnic from the campus of Model School Sitanagar:

During the meeting the Member of Parliament mentioned that the Sita Nagar Model School of Diglipur caters to approximately 700 students, and the current infrastructure is insufficient to accommodate their needs. The school lacks classrooms and laboratory space, and this inadequacy stems from the fact that a Polytechnic operates within the same premises. To provide context, the Polytechnic has only 260 students, utilizing just three classrooms and the Polytechnic is also lacking adequate facilities in the building.

He pointed out that there is an unused boys' hostel situated behind the Model School in Sita Nagar and requested the Chief Secretary to relocate the Polytechnic to the available boys' hostel behind Sita Nagar Model School in Diglipur.

He added that by shifting the Polytechnic to the boys' hostel, the Administration can address the space constraints faced by both institutions, ultimately enhancing the educational environment for all students. This change will not only optimize space but also contribute to the betterment of education in the region.
