Port Blair, Sept. 12: On 03/09/2023 based on an information, one pickup van bearing Reg. No. AN01-N-0155 which was transporting illegal hand sawn padauk timber from Ferarrgunj to Port Blair was successfully apprehended by the Police team comprising of ASI Jagdish Prasad, Incharge, HC/1170 Abdul Nazar, HC/1106 Khokan Dutta and HG(R)/Paulous Minj at Ferrargunj.
On interception of the said pickup van, total 31 pieces of illegal Hand sawn padauk timber measuring 1.0147 m3 Cbm (approx) was recovered and seized under the cover of seizure memo and the 02 persons namely 1) Sanjan Kumar S/o Late George Khosh (27) yrs Pvt Driver R/o Aniket and 2) Sandeep Xalxo S/o Late Fabiyanus Xalxo (30) yrs Pvt worker R/o Mathura, Ward No. 2 were detained. On interrogation offenders disclosed that they had brought the illegal hand sawn padauk timber from Mile Tilak.
A team comprising of SI Samiran Mridha, the then incharge of PS Ograbraj, ASI Jagdish Prasad, HC/1170 Abdul Nazar, HC/1106 Khokan Dutta, PC/847 P Nizamudeen and HG(R)/Paulous Minj was formed and a joint raid was conducted during which 08 more pieces of hand sawn padauk timber measuring 0.0900 Cbm approx (quantity) were recovered from the surrounding premises of house of one person namely Prabal Tirkey S/o Late Avinash Tirkey (40) yrs DRM at Forest R/o Mile Tilak.
Further, sawn timbers of padauk were seized under the cover of seizure memo and the accused persons were detained. During the operation a total of 1.1047 Cbm of illegal hand sawn padauk timber was seized. Later, all the seized illegal hand sawn padauk timber alongwith the persons were handed over to Forest official for further necessary action from their end.
The whole operation was headed by SI Samiran Mridha, the then Incharge of PS Ograbraj under the supervision Shri Arshdeep Singh Panwar, SDPO(B/Flat), DANIPS and overall supervision of Shri. Kalaivanan. R, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
