Port Blair, Sept. 12: The A & N AIDS Control Society (ANACS) conducted a mainstreaming training programme on HIV/AIDS for the officers, staff, employees and workers working under Directorate of Shipping Services at Labour Welfare Centre, Marine Dockyard today. Altogether 85 participants participated in the programme.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A&N AIDS Control Society.

Dr. PK Sikdar, AD (Lab Service) in his brief session informed the HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) ACT, 2017 to prevent and control the spread of HIV/ AIDS, prohibits discrimination against persons with HIV and AIDS and no person shall be compelled to disclose is HIV status except by an order of court.

Girish Kumar, AD (Mainstreaming) i/c spoken on HIV /AIDS, STI to raise awareness about safe sexual practices, promote education regarding the transmission and prevention of STIs, and emphasize the significance of early detection and treatment. Discussions also revolved around reducing the stigma and discrimination often associated with these infections, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic society. The programme concluded with a question and answer session.
