POSHAN Abhiyan launched by Hon'ble Prime Minister in the year 2018 aims to achieve improvement in the status of nutrition of both children and women. Involvement of people in bringing behavioural change and inculcating the habit of a balanced diet through Jan Andolan and Community Mobilization are the two most important pillars to achieve this goal. Poshan Maah aspires to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, low-birth weight and anemia. Every year, the month of September is celebrated as POSHAN Maah in the Islands along with rest of the nation.

The theme of current year for celebration of Rashtriya Poshan Maah is "Suposhit Bharat, Sakshar Bharat, Sashakt Bharat" (Nutrition-rich India, Educated India, Empowered India).

Department of Social Welfare in association with Panchayati Raj Institutions and line Department  is organizing   theme based programmes   like  awareness on exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding, Swasth Balak Spardha (SBS), Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, improving nutrition through Mission LiFE, adopting sustainable Food Systems by promoting Millet and Poshan Vatikas, adopting healthy lifestyles, through AYUSH practices like Yoga and physical exercise, Meri Mati Mera Desh (MMMD), Tribal focused nutrition sensitization and Test, Treat, Talk Anemia.

On this occasion, I appeal to all Islanders to make their contribution in spreading the message of nutrition concepts and bringing behavioural changes in making A&N Islands free from malnutrition (Kuposhan Mukt Dweep)
