Port Blair, Sept. 19: As a part of ongoing "Fit India" initiative of Govt. of India, the Armed Police Unit of A&N Police is organizing a week long open to all Badminton Championship titled, "DGP Cup".

The inauguration of the event was held at Multipurpose Indoor Hall, Netaji Stadium on 18/09/23 at 1030 hrs. The Director General Police, Shri. Devesh Chandra Srivastva inaugurated the event by tossing the coin.

In his inaugural speech, the DGP congratulated the Police Department for organizing such an event and emphasized on participation in sports and games for overall fitness of police personnel. He assured that this tournament will not only showcase exceptional badminton skills but also serve as a platform for fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie within the police force. He also emphasised that tournament like these should not just be played for victory on the court; but with a larger vision for a healthier and more vibrant India.

To promote Esprit de Corps, the tournament is open for Gazetted Officers of all the departments of Andaman & Nicobar Administration. The open to all competition has a separate category for children of Police personnel to inculcate a feeling of Community among all ranks and their families. Throughout the week long tournament, a total of 90 matches will be played between 65 Participants.

Inaugural match played between ASI (C) Tamilarasan and Constable Arvind Purti enthralled the audience wherein Tamilarasan defeated Purti in 3 sets of 18-21, 21-19, 22-20.

The tournament is being coordinated by SI MA Rasheed, I/C Sports and Inspr. Solomon Samuel with the guidance of Miss. Yogita Sharma, DySP (APU) under the overall supervision of Smti. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, APU.
