Port Blair, Sept. 21: Tourism Department will be celebrating ‘World Tourism Day 2023’ on September 27, 2023 in a befitting manner with the theme ‘Tourism and Green Investment’. As part of this, the Directorate of Tourism has planned various events and activities in collaboration with tourism stakeholders, line Departments and India Tourism from Sept. 22 to 27, 2023. The first in the series of the programme is the beach volleyball tournament which will be held at Corbyn’s Cove Beach at 10 am tomorrow (Sept. 22) and will continue upto Sept. 24. Apart from this, a special adventurous trip i.e. trekking expedition to Mt. Manipur will be held on Sept. 23.

The other events which will be organized during the week include, open Elocution Competition for School and College students of Class X to XII and a workshop on Sept. 25.

In order to promote swachhta, beach cleaning drive will be conducted at Corbyn’s Cove beach, Radhanagar beach, Bharatpur beach, Amkunj beach, Kalipur beach on Sept. 23 and at Wandoor beach on Sept. 25 and at Mundapahar beach on Sept. 26. The beach cleaning drive will be organized by Tourism Department with the support of PBMC/PRIs and tourism stakeholders.

Meanwhile, on World Tourism Day, tourists will be accorded a warm welcome at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep. The main function of the World Tourism Day will be held in the evening at Dr. B R Ambedkar Auditorium with a befitting cultural programme on Sept.27 followed by a prize distribution ceremony wherein winners of various competitions will be felicitated by the chief guest.
