Kolkata, Sept. 21: The 36th National Under-7 Open & Girls Chess Championships–2023 began today morning in Kolkata, West Bengal.

More than 350 players from across India are participating in this prestigious Championship in which four young chess players (one girl & three boys) from Andaman & Nicobar Islands viz. D Charvi of VKV Lambaline, Port Blair, P Joshit of St. Mary’s School, Jayden Immanual Gomez of Carmel school and R Medanth of Saraswati Shishu Mandir are participating with great enthusiasm.

The event will be held for five days from 21st to 25th September 2023 over nine rounds in classical format with a time control of 90 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds per move. The total prize money of the championship is rupees five lakhs which will be awarded among top twenty players in each category.
