Port Blair, Sept. 25: With a vision to create a chess culture and community that enriches the lives of the islanders and also as a part of the “Rehabilitation and Chess” programme, Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) in association with District Prison Prothrapur initiated Chess training classes for the inmates of District Prison Prothrapur on 23rd September 2023 in the Jail premises.
Shri. Mohd. Hanifa, Jailor, District Prison Prothrapur, inaugurated the chess training classes by making the first move on the chess board and urged the inmates to take maximum benefit out of the chess training classes. He further added that Playing the game of chess will help the Prison inmates to concentrate their mind to learn various trainings conducting by the Prison Department for their Rehabilitation & Resocialization.
FIDE Instructor, B Neelaiah conducted the chess training classes for the inmates of the Prison. He also appraised them about the benefits of playing chess and its positive impact on rehabilitation. The Chess Training classes will be conducted weekly once for the inmates of District Prison.
As a goodwill gesture, Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) donated a few chess sets for the inmates to play the game during their leisure time to relieve their inevitable isolation and boredom.
