Kamorta, Sept. 27: For the first time in Nancowrie group of Island, the District Administration, Nicobars organized an event with the theme “Zilla Prashashan Aapke Dwar” at Kamorta and Katchal Islands on 26th September, 2023. The event was organised in the EOC conference hall of Assistant Commissioner’s office at Kamorta Island at 9.30 AM and in the Community Hall, Japan Tikrey, Katchal at 2.30 PM on the same day. The Deputy Commissioner, Ms Jyoti Kumari, IAS chaired the event from the district Head Quarter, Car Nicobar through VC.

The Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie Shri Anuj Kumar Bharti, Chairman Tribal Council, Nancowrie, Smti Ayesha Majid and Chairman Tribal Council, Kamorta, Shri Charles Jacob were also present at the venue. The event was attended by the officials of various line departments such as Civil Supplies, CDPO, Fisheries, Health, Electricity, APWD, agriculture, Education & A&N Police along with tribal leaders of different villages and large nos. of general public.

This event was organised with the aim to bring the Govt. services and assistance directly to the people, eliminating the barriers and ensuring efficient delivery of services at their doorsteps. Through this campaign, the District Administration ensures to create awareness among the eligible beneficiaries about various on-going projects/ facilities provided by the different departments of A& N Administration. The camp also acts as a platform for the citizens of the Island to engage with various Government departments, discuss their concerns and receive on the spot solutions.

This is the first ever programme of such kind in the Nancowrie group of Islands organised by District Administration with the vision to serve the public of far flung Islands of Nicobar District by bringing services of all line departments under a single umbrella.

The Deputy Commissioner, Nicobars Smti Jyoti Kumari, IAS addressed the gathering and assured that the District Administration is committed to overall development of this Island and urged the people to feel free to reach out district office for redressal of their grievances. She also made announcement regarding implementation of online services at Nancowrie group of Island by setting up e-Corners at various Island which will eradicate the difficulties being faced by the villagers residing in far flung Islands to reach the Sub-divisional head quarter situated at Kamorta Island for availing various services. She also informed the

general public that the District Administration will very soon start a weekly e-service camp in the premises of Assistant Commissioner’s Office, Kamorta for the benefit of those Islanders who wish to apply online for availing learning/ driving licence.

Apart from the above announcements, the applicants who have applied for various services like income certificate, local certificate, fisheries license and birth certificates were handed over the same at the event by the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie. Many grievances of the Islanders pertaining to different departments were settled on the spot and directions were given to the concerned department to resolve the issue at the earliest by Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie. Beside this, on the spot registration and updation of Aadhar cards were also carried out in the event at the venue itself. The Chairman Tribal council, Nancowrie Smti Ayesha Majid thanked the District Administration for this first of a kind initiative and requested the District Administration to organise similar programme in future also.

The event concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri Anuj Kumar Bharti, DANICS, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie with the assurance to organize similar event in future as well on regular basis.
