Port Blair, Sept. 28: As part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah observance, ICDS Project, Ferrargunj in South Andaman under the Directorate of Social Welfare conducted various programs in different areas including Anganwadi Centres. A programme was conducted at Community Hall Chouldari yesterday with the assistance and support of Health Department, Educational Institutions and PRI members especially by the Pradhan Smti. Taposi Shah and Prameela Kumari, Zilla Parishad Member of Chouldari.

Shri P. C James, Programme Officer of Directorate of Social Welfare while addressing the gatherings as chief guest highlighted the importance of the awareness program on the need for stamping out of malnourishment for the future generation and importance of exclusive breast feeding to the babies for their healthy grow. He also stressed on eradication of malnutrition among pregnant ladies, lactating mothers, children of 0-5 years, adults, as well as adolescent children.  ICDS, Ferrargunj conducted various competitions like recipe of mothers and fancy dress of Anganwadi kids under the direction of Directorate of Social Welfare with the team efforts of Smti. Irene Nicolas, CDPO of ICDS, Ferrargunj. The awareness program was mainly on focusing eradicating malnourishment, exclusive and complimentary breastfeeding and introduction of Millets. Dr. Sunita, Dr. Joy, Smti Sarika Verma, Nutrition Consultant, Dr. Sudakshina & Dr. Sourab Ghoshal spoke on the theme and objectives of Poshan.

The gathering was also informed about cleanliness drive conducted at various places during POSHAN Maah celebration and door to door approach for Heath Care of the kids and their family members. Smti. Anjali Bachar, Mukhya Sevika highlighted on the objective of the 6th  Rastriya Poshan Maah programme being conducted in this month. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions and Anganwadi Workers for their exemplary work by the Gram Panchayat, Chouldari..

A similar function was also conducted at Anganwadi Centre of Laxmanpur-I, Shaheed Dweep with the assistance of Police Department and support of PRI members. Smti. Kalai Selvi, Mukya Sevika highlighted about POCSO Act and motivated the public for eradicating malnutrition. All the Anganwadi Staff were present on the occasion. Smti Pinkey Das, Pradhan of Neil Kendra also graced the programme.

In Little Andaman, the Rastriya Poshan Maah was also celebrated with various Programmes at PHC, Hutbay. Ms Kalyani Das, Mukhya Sevika organized the entire programme with the assistance of Health Department and PRI members. An awareness programme on Poshan, Oral & Dental care along with yoga session was organised. Pledge for organ donation was also taken on the occasion A baby show was also conducted as part of the programme at Harminder Bay and prizes were distributed.
