Mayabunder, Oct. 15: The Department of Agriculture in association with Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTATMA) celebrated Mahila Kisan Diwas based on theme ‘Sustainable Agriculture through Gender Inclusion and Participation’ today at Karmatang Community Hall, Mayabunder. Smti. Mary Clostica, Panchayat Samiti Member and Resource Person of Self Help Group was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, she appreciated the Department for celebrating the day in their village and urged to avail benefits of various agriculture and allied sector schemes. The programme was also graced by Smti. Naw Ahtho and Smti Naw Thomaytoo, senior citizens of Karmatang village.

During the inaugural session, Smt. S.Manju, Agriculture Assistant, Mayabunder briefed about the importance of the programme.  She also highlighted that the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has launched various schemes for upliftment of rural womenfolks. Womenfolks play a leading role in many post harvest operations such as value addition of fruits and vegetables, mushroom cultivation etc. Smti. Anita Biswas, Agriculture Assistant spoke about High Value Agriculture and Flagship schemes. She urged the womenfolks for value addition of flowers for better income generation. Shri C.H. Abdul Aziz, Junior Soil Conservation Assistant highlighted on Minor Irrigation schemes and soil conservation schemes with special importance to eKYC and Kisan Credit Card.   

During the concluding session, demonstration on the technique of bouquet and garland making was imparted to women farmers.
