Port Blair, Oct. 25: The Department of Social Welfare organized a Laughter & Fitness Session at Joggers Park on Oct. 22 during which the expert educated the people about the importance of healthy life style and how to live a drug-free life through physical activity, education, and community support.

Laughter therapy, also known as laughter yoga, is a form of complementary therapy that emphasizes the use of laughter as a means to improve overall well-being and health. While it might not be a traditional form of exercise or fitness routine, laughter therapy can play a significant role in fitness.

Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals. This can help reduce stress, which is important for maintaining overall fitness. High levels of stress are associated with various health issues, including weight gain, heart disease, and impaired immune function. Laughter therapy can provide stress relief and help individuals feel more relaxed.  It can stimulate the circulatory system, increasing heart rate and oxygenate the body's tissues.

Laughter therapy can boost mood and motivation. It can   act   as   a   natural   painkiller   by increasing the body's production of endorphins and reducing the perception of pain. This can be especially valuable for those who experience chronic pain, making it easier for them to engage in physical activities. Laughter therapy can boost the immune system by increasing the production of immune cells and antibodies. A stronger immune system can help prevent illnesses that might hinder fitness progress. Incorporating laughter into one's daily life can contribute to a more holistic approach to health and fitness.

The Department of Social Welfare is committed to serve with utmost dedication and will be conducting such programmes from time-time for the welfare of the general public of this UT.
