With the ensuing festive season, a usual trend in increase in the purchase of gold jewellery, precious items and sweets & savouries by the consumers is witnessed throughout this UT.  Hence, all the Jewellers, Bakeries, Sweet Shops and other concerned establishments in this UT have been advised to get their weights and measures verified and stamped by the Legal Metrology Section of the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs.

Further, it is reiterated that no commercial establishment should sale under weighed commodities, selling packaged commodities beyond MRP, tampering of MRP, etc. to refrain themselves from such unfair trade practices.  Any person/firm to whom a Certificate of Verification is issued has to display the same in a noticeable manner in the premises where the weights, measures or weighing or measuring instruments to which the certificate relates are used.

It is to be noted that the Enforcement Team of the Directorate of CS&CA is conducting rigorous enforcement drive to discourage any unfair trade practices and Commercial Establishments, failing which, appropriate action as deemed as per extant Rules/Regulations framed under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 shall be initiated against the violator.
