Port Blair, Nov. 2: The Khadi Mahotsav, a grand celebration of India's rich textile heritage, has been captivating hearts and minds across the nation, as various events and initiatives commemorated the significance of this iconic fabric. This year, the Mahotsav, which began on October 2 and concluded on Oct. 31, witnessed a spectacular fusion of tradition and innovation, all centered around the timeless elegance of Khadi.

The A&N Islands also actively participated in the Mahotsav by organizing various events. The A&N Islands Khadi and Village Industries Board organized Workshop/ seminars for the students of three Colleges viz. ITI, ANCOL and JNRM on Oct.18, 20 & 26, 2023 respectively. The programmes which were organized to educate and inspire college students about the rich heritage of Khadi and the importance of making responsible choices in their lives was attended by about 770 students.

During the period from Oct.17to 31, the Board erected a Selfie Point along with display of Charkha in three different locations including the campus of Sagarika Govt. Emporium, Udyog Parisar, Tagore Govt. College of Education and Marina Park premises for creating awareness among the tourists and local Islanders.

As a part of this celebration, the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan, the Departmental Sales Outlet of Khadi and Village Industries Board at Middle Point organized a Khadi Sales-cum-Exhibition with a generous 25% discount on all the latest arrivals of Khadi products. In addition, a rally was organized which commenced at the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan, proceeded down the Bengali Club Road, and culminated at the Directorate of Industries. This rally was a significant event aimed at promoting the use of Khadi, highlighting its cultural importance, and encouraged the local community to embrace this sustainable fabric. The rally was participated by the Officials of the A&NI KVIB, Industries Department, District Industries Centre and many artisans engaged in production of handicrafts and Village Industries products. The rally concluded with the participants taking e-pledge under the leadership of Shri Abhishek Bhukal, Director of Industries.
