Port Blair, Nov. 4: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour, Textiles and Skill Development, headed by its Chairman, Shri Bharatruhari Mehtab arrived on a 5-day visit to A&N Islands yesterday. The other members of the committee include Shri Satish Kumar Gautam, Adv. Dean Kuriakose, Shri Dayakar Pasunoori, Shri Khalilur Rahaman, Shri Bhola Singh, Shri Kunwar Pushpendra Singh Chandel, Shri K Subbarayan, Shri Giridhari Yadav, Shri Naresh Bansal, Shri Neeraj Dangi, Shri R Dharmar and Shri Elamaran Kareem.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee today held discussion at ‘Hotel Taj Exotica’, Swaraj Dweep with the   Deputy   Chief   Labour   Commissioner/Regional   Labour Commissioner, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner and representatives of ESIC of the Region regarding their Role, Functions and Duties in the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands with special reference to organizations concerned as per the study visit programme.

The Committee also held discussion with the Management of Andaman Lakshadweep  Harbour Works (ALHW)   and   Ministry   of Ports,   Shipping   and   Waterways   on   the   subject ‘Contractual Appointments/Deployments and Implementation of Labour Laws concerning the welfare of Contract/Casual Workers’ in ALHW and discussion with the officials of Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Ministry    of    Housing    &    Urban    Affairs    on    the    subject    "Contractual Appointments/Deployments and Implementation of Labour Laws" in CPWD with special reference to the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands at the same venue.
