Port Blair, Nov. 13: CITU organized a public meeting at Campbell Bay bazaar on the evening of 11th November 2023. Addressing the public meeting, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU A & N State Committee, who is currently on a visit to Great Nicobar Island, expressed concern over the growing unemployment in the Islands and the failure of the BJP government at the centre to create job opportunities for the local youth.

He said that number of unemployed youth is increasing in rural areas like Great Nicobar and demanded to take immediate steps to provide livelihood to educated youth. He asked the Administration to develop the Great Nicobar Island as a tourist spot. 

Referring to the sky-rocketing prices of food items, Ayyappan said that electoral promises of BJP during 2014 to bring down prices within 100 days if it is voted to power, has turned out to be a hollow promise. 

He also referred to a number of local issues of Great Nicobar like (i) posting of specialist doctors to Campbell Bay, (ii) establishment of ITI at Campbell Bay, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, S. Surender, General Secretary, Govt. Pensioners Association and a native of Great Nicobar criticized the Administration for its failure to solve various pending demands of the people of Great Nicobar. He touched upon a number of local issues including the issues of farmers in Great Nicobar.    

CITU A&N State Committee Member R. Dhandapani presided over the public meeting. A large number of workers and general public attended the public meeting.
