CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee expresses deep concern over the passing away of veteran CPI (M) leader Comrade N Sankaraiah today (15.11.2023) morning at Chennai. He was 102 years.  

While being a college student in Madurai, Com Sankaraiah joined the freedom struggle. He could not complete the degree as just before the university examination, he was arrested. As a freedom fighter he spent several years in jail. He joined the Communist Party of India in the year 1940 and was an important leader of the Party in Tamil Nadu. 

Com. Sankaraiah was one of the 32 National Council members of undivided Communist Party who walked out to form the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1964. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu State Assembly in 1967, 1977 and 1980 and was the leader of the CPI (M) group in Tamil Nadu Assembly in 1977 and 1980. A dedicated Communist, Comrade Sankaraiah throughout his life upheld the high standards of integrity and simplicity in public life.
