I am glad to learn that "National Press Day" is being observed on 16th November, 2023 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with the rest of the country. This was the day on which Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that not only did the press maintain the high standards expected from this powerful medium but also that it was not fettered by the influence or threats of any extraneous factors. The theme for this year's celebration is 'Media in the Era of Artificial Intelligence'.

National Press Day is celebrated to highlight the importance of a free and independent press in India. Journalists working in various media houses act as the mirror of society, whose reports and stories reflect various aspects of society. This day portrays press' freedom, duties, and responsibilities towards the citizens and democracy.

The era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is significantly impacting the media landscape, transforming the way content is created, distributed, consumed, and monetized. As technology continues to evolve, media professionals and organizations must navigate these changes thoughtfully, considering both the benefits and potential risks associated with AI applications in media.

On this occasion, I extend my warm greetings to all members of media fraternity, both directly and indirectly connected with the fourth pillar of democracy and call upon them to contribute wholeheartedly towards Nation building.
