Port Blair, Nov. 16: Shri Vishal Jolly National Executive Member BJP & Former State President BJP-ANI wrote a letter to the Hon'ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands for releasing of funds as compensation to fire victims and also make necessary arrangements for their temporary stay and rehabilitation.

In his letter Jolly wrote that a massive fire accident that rocked Port Blair on Diwali day i.e. 12th November, 2023, which caused colossal of damage to the properties belonging to the fire victims and stressed about the following points on incidents: -

1) The news broke that a huge fire was caught at Phoenix Bay at the houses of Shri. Sandeep Kapoor, Shri. Madan Pal Singh & Smti. Susheela Devi and had badly affected the surrounding buildings of that locality. At least three buildings including one Air Condition repair shop were gutted in fire which not only caused huge loss to them but also put them into serious mental trauma.

2) Before the said news could subside, another massive fire was reported from Dairy Farm Junction which had gutted the entire business unit of Shivam Enterprises and Floor Mill, causing heavy loss to them as well as all the buildings located nearby that building.

3) It was further noticed that the walls and AC units of Hotel ASM and Hotel MSM has been severely damaged resulting in heavy loss to their infrastructures.

4) Apart from owners of these buildings, heavy damages to materials were also reported from all the tenants residing/operating their respective businesses from these buildings. 

5) Within few hours at least 5-6 buildings were gutted and reportedly properties worth of around 3-5 crores were completely destroyed in fire.  

6) Both these fire accidents had left the victims in deep trouble financially as well as mentally. They have been put to immense mental and physical agony due to this unfortunate disaster and therefore each of them needs to be provided with some relief in order to overcome this disaster.

Accordingly, he requested the Lt. Governor to grant/release adequate funds as an ex-gratia relief to each of the victims and also make necessary arrangements for their temporary stay & rehabilitation, after making necessary assessments.
