Port Blair, Nov. 17: Port Blair City Area Committee of CPI (M) has conducted corner meetings at various parts of the Port Blair town on 16th and 17th November, 2023 on the issues of (1) Against intermittent power supply (2) Against deplorable condition of urban roads (3) Against price rise, (4) On failure of Smart City Projects.

Addressing the corner meeting at Shadipur on 17th November, 2023, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) Andaman & Nicoabr State Organising Committee said that the BJP-led government at the centre has failed even to carry out the renovation work of NH 4 (ATR) and said that this is one of the utter failures of the Modi government.

He said that NH4 renovation work is the biggest corruption of Modi government in Andaman & Nicobr Islands. He further said that BJP and Congress MP from the islands cannot defend themselves on this issue. Referring to the intermittent power cut at Port Blair town and rural South Andaman area, CPI (M) Secretary said that people are put to hardship by the BJP government for the last several years and demanded immediate revival of power houses of Electricity Department to tide over the situation. He said that people are facing difficulties due to non-availability of quarry products because of the mishandling of the issue by the central government and its Administration in the islands.

Addressing the corner meetings at various places, D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member said that the prices of essential commodities are sky-rocketing and the BJP government has failed to control it. He recalled the promises of bringing down the prices within 100 days if PJB is voted to power, made by the BJP before the 2014 Parliament election. 

Addressing the corner meetings, Dr Gouranga Majhi, State Secretariat Member of the party said that farmers are not being extended with even the minimum support price for the agriculture products. He criticized the BJP government and A & N Administration for the shortage of fertilizers and seeds in the islands. Addressing the meetings, NKP Nair, CPI (M) Port Blair City Area Committee Member explained the harassment meted out to workers by the Administration and referred to the refusal of the Administration to honour the Interim Order granted by the High Court in respect of continuance of daily rated mazdoors of Forest Department. KG Samkutty, Port Blair Area Committee Member also addressed the meeting.
