Mayabunder, Nov. 20: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of North and Middle Andaman celebrated ‘National Adoption Day’ befittingly on Nov.18, 2023 under the guidance of Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance and necessity of adoption to the children in need, so as to provide them loving parents, home, care, good education, amicable social atmosphere etc., which are the basic necessities of every child.

The celebration commenced with lighting of the lamp in the Conference Hall of Assistant Commissioner’s Office, Diglipur. Shri Subhajit Basu, Hon’ble Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mayabunder was the chief guest while Shri Tarun Kumar Mondal, Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge, Mayabunder, N&M Andaman was the guest of honour on the occasion. Shri Arnab Roy Choudary, Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mayabunder, N&M Andaman, Dr. H.M. Siddaraju, Chief Medical Officer, CHC Diglipur and Smti Indra Devi, Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Project (Rural), Diglipur were the special guests.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest emphasized on the importance of celebration of ‘National Adoption Day’. Similarly, the guest of honour highlighted on the procedures for adoption and also various welfare schemes for children such as Child Marriage, Right to Education, Health and Hygiene for children etc.

During the program, various cultural activities and competitions such as Rangoli, Quiz Competition and Skit were performed by the Anganwadi Workers and ASHA Workers. About 200 people participated in the program. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by the Legal-cum-Probation Officer, DCPU, N&M Andaman.
