Port Blair, Dec. 7: In a ground-breaking cyber operation, the Cyber Cell, Port Blair, has successfully apprehended one A. Ashwin, a college student, for his involvement in a sophisticated cybercrime case. This case involved the morphing of victim's images followed by their dissemination to the friends of victim alongside threatening emails.

The investigation, initiated after a formal complaint by the victim, revealed the disturbing use of advanced techniques to morph images and orchestrate cyber threats. Such acts not only violate the law but also inflict severe emotional and psychological distress on the victims.

Inspector Ranga Raj, In charge of the Cyber Cell, Port Blair, along with his tech-savvy team, which includes Insp. Mohd. Sameer, ASI Raja, HC/316 Bhupender Kr. Singh, PC/2725 Kayan Mohd, PC/2173 Atish, PC/765 Wilson Toppo, PC/1110 Sangeeta Mazumder, PC/837 Hari Krishna, PC/1683, T. Vikash, HG(R)/15 Gnana Sekar, meticulously traced and apprehended A. Ashwin, who attempted to conceal his digital footprints. Employing advanced cyber forensic techniques, the team tracked down and arrested Ashwin. Notably, he was a friend of victim and had accompanied her when she initially came to lodge the complaint in Cyber Cell.

During interrogation, Ashwin disclosed his connection with an individual from Nigeria, engaging in frequent WhatsApp conversations. This connection led to the sharing of his classmates' photos, eventually evolving into a plan to extort money from the victim through morphed photos.

The entire investigation is being conducted under the supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DANIPS, Dy.SP (Cyber), and the overall supervision of Sh. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, Superintendent (CID). The accused has been produced before the Court of Law for Police Custody, facing charges under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and other applicable laws.
