Port Blair, Dec. 10: A five-day training programme on ‘Organic Oyster Mushroom Cultivation Technology’ concluded at ICAR-KVK, Sippighat. A total of 34 participants attended the training from different areas of the Islands. This training programme focused on growing mushrooms in urban and peri urban to generate self-employment among islanders.

During the training programme, Dr. Nitu Sindhu (Women Scientist) demonstrated the mushroom cultivation technology and Dr. Y. Ramakrishna (Head & Principal Scientist, KVK) explained the importance of organic cultivation and how to develop marketing channel in Islands. Shri Tanmai Paul (Farm Manager, KVK) demonstrated different ways to manage the spent mushroom substrate for additional income. A model unit at Krishi Vigyan Kendra was also demonstrated, which helped the participants understand its value in the integrated farming system and agrotourism.

During the valedictory programme, Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair, emphasised the nutritional value as well as economic returns. He urged the participants to actively adopt this technology for entrepreneurship development.
