Port Blair, Dec. 15: In order to improve the skills of Beach Officer, Tourist Safety and Enforcement Team, Lifeguards, and Tourism Stakeholders of Corbyn’s Cove Beach and also to improve the co-ordination between them to make them confident and efficient enough to swim across any challenges comes on the way during their challenging nature of job, a table top exercise followed by mock drill was conducted at Corbyn’s Cove Beach here today.

The Beach Officer, Tourist Safety and Enforcement Team, Lifeguards and 20 Tourism Stakeholders related to various water sports activities i.e. Sea Kart, Jet Ski, Parasailing, Kayaking and FRP Boats participated in the exercise. Shri Aqeeb Azeem, Consultant of Directorate of IP&T was the resource person. He explained about the importance of Mock Drill, evaluation of response time during an emergency situation, importance of communication, how to implement emergency response procedure on ground in the form of drills etc.  Through interaction, he tried to identify the strength and weaknesses of Beach Officer, TSET, Lifeguards and Tourism Stakeholders and also address their weaknesses/problems by providing suitable inputs on the spot.

Further, to practically implement the learning outcome of the exercise, a mock drill was also conducted. An emergency situation/scenario was created, wherein, a Sea Kart and a Jet Ski collided in the sea during their respective trip along with guests. The mock drill was successfully carried out by the combined efforts of Beach Officer, TSET, Lifeguards and   Tourism Stakeholders/ water sports operators.

The mock drill was conducted under the overall supervision of the Director (IP&T) and concerned Officials of Directorate of IP&T were also present.
