Port Blair, Dec. 19: On 18/12/2023, at 11.30 am a small group of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Prothrapur, consisting of Rev. Fr. Rajesh Kullu SJ, the Parish Priest, Sr. Nirmala, Shri. Sanjay Meshack, the President of A&N Catholic Association, Shri. T. Sebasteen, President of Prothrapur Catholic Association and a few others visited the District Jail, Prothrapur to share the happiness and the good news of the birth of Jesus Christ to the staff & inmates of the Jail in anticipation of the Christmas festival 2023.

The Jail authorities were very kind enough to grant the permission and making the necessary arrangements for the purpose. A large gathering of around 350 inmates and few staff members were present in the meeting hall inside the Jail complex where the Jailor Shri. Abdul Haneef welcomed the group and introduced them to the inmates. He also briefed them about the purpose of their visit.

Rev Fr. Rajesh Kullu SJ delivered a short speech in which he explained the physical and spiritual life of all human beings. He said, we believe in the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the Son of God born as man in the world. He taught the people how to live in the physical life and how to face any situation in life. He concluded by saying that their visit to District Jail is to express their solidarity with all human beings during Christmas festival.

The carol singing group sung 2-3 melodious carol songs and read the Word of God from the Bible and wished all those present there, a very happy Xmas and a happy new year. Two small groups (Foreign & Indian Prisoners) of the jail also participated in singing Carols in their respective language.

Shri T Sebasteen thanked the entire Jail authorities on behalf of the Catholic Church for giving them the opportunity to share the happiness and good news to the inmates of the Jail and urged everyone to be happy in every situation and that they would pray for each one of them for their early release and to have a better life in the future.

The Jail visit concluded with the distribution of sweets, cakes and gifts to all those present on the occasion.
