Port Blair, Jan 1: With an aim to enhance local sports and cultural infrastructure, the Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon'ble Lt. Governor of A & N Islands to construct a mini stadium at the renowned Vivekananda Ground in Vivek Nagar (Bachra Pahad), under Chouldari Panchayat.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the Vivekananda Ground has been a central hub for sports, cultural, and social activities for local villagers and youths for several decades.

He said that despite its popularity, the absence of any shelter on the grounds has posed a significant challenge for organizing events, leading to the yearly construction of temporary structures for activities like the Vivekananda Mela organized by Chouldari Panchayat.

Recognizing the ground's consistent usage and its importance to the local community, the Member of Parliament has urged the Lt. Governor to support the construction of a mini stadium at Vivekananda Ground. This initiative, proposed under the Khelo India Scheme or Rurban Scheme by Member of Parliament, is expected to cater to the diverse sporting, cultural, and social needs of the villagers and youth in the area.

The Member of Parliament added that such a facility will not only foster physical fitness and skill development but will also contribute to community engagement.
