Port Blair, Jan 7: CPI (M) Port Blair Area Committee has carried out door-to-door campaign and corner meetings at Dairy Farm, Ranchi Basthi, Garacharma and Bathubasthi areas on 28th, 29th and 30th December, 2023, 2nd and 4th, January, 2024. Various burning issues like (i) frequent power cut, (ii) sky-rocketing price rise (iii) growing unemployment, (iv) corruption, (v) non-availability of stone chips, metals, (vi) deplorable condition of urban roads, etc. were highlighted during the campaign and corner meetings.    

Addressing a corner meeting at Bhathubasthi, D. Ayyappan, State Secretary, CPI (M) briefly dealt with a number of long-pending demands of the islanders and held the BJP and Congress responsible for not resolving these issues. He said that there is lack of infrastructure in the islands for overall growth and said that even after reportedly spending hundreds of crores of rupees, the villages in Andaman & Nicobar Islands remain without basic facilities of roads, drinking water, electricity, communication network, hospitals, etc.  He said that successive government at the centre and Members of Parliament from the islands belonging to BJP and Congress are responsible for it.  

Addressing the corner meetings, D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member of the party briefly explained the utter failure of the BJP-led Port Blair Municipal Council for the deplorable condition of urban roads.  He said that BJP government has failed in all spheres in these islands.  

SP Kalairajan, State Organising Committee Member of the Party while addressing the corner meetings expressed concern over the frequent power cut in the islands and held the BJP government responsible for it.    

CPI (M) Port Blair Area Committee Members NKP Nair and KG Samkutty also addressed the corner meetings at different places.
