Impressive March Past, Sportsmanship, and Spectacular Cultural Programmes hold the Audience Spellbound

Diglipur, Jan 12: There would have been no better opportunity than the Annual Athletic Meet, which was used by the talented rural School Sportspersons, grabbing it to their fullest potential. The students of the Government Model Senior Secondary School Sitanagar stunned the audience with their exemplary skills on the playfield, displaying their sports abilities at the Annual Athletic Meet held yesterday at Vivekananda Stadium. Starting with the impressive March Past in the morning, which was applauded by the Chief Guest, the Deputy Education Officer Shri S. Suresh Kumar, Guest of Honour Shri Satyajit Baidya, special Guests the Zilla Parishad Members Smti Arpona Roy and Shri Niranjan Haldar, the budding players looked very competitive in the different sporting events on the field.

Addressing the students in the morning session, the Chief Guest Shri S. Suresh Kumar said the students are extremely talented and they are capable of competing with anyone of their age. Appreciating the school Management for putting up the show in a professional manner, he called upon the students to show their talents in the forthcoming Board Examinations as well.  

Bivek Mondal of Smith House and Ruhi Roy of Narcondum House bagged the titles of Individual Champions, winning the highest number of Gold Medals in the senior Boys and Girls category, respectively. In the Junior category, Shaju Samuel of Smith and Binitha Hermon of Narcondom were declared Individual Champions. Amit Biswas and Arushi Kumari, both from the Paget House clinched the Individual Champion’s Trophies in Boys and Girls groups. Smith House bagged the Champion’s Trophy with 123 points, whereas Ross House was awarded the Runner-up Trophy. Paget and Narcondum both secured third place with 107 points each.

The audience was spellbound by the spectacular cultural Programme displaying folk dances of the different states of the country, in the closing ceremony. A unique kind of Programme, “Athletes on the Ramp” was another attraction, where the student actors depicted the Personalities of ace sportspersons of India walking on the field, copying their style. The Chief Guest, Principal of PM-SHRI GSSS Subhashgram Smti Sulochana had special words for the performers. In her address, she said that Hard Work and perseverance are the keys to success and hoped that they would excel in Academics too. The Special Guests, Pradhan of Sitanagar Panchayat Shri Biplab Mondal, Pradhan of Subhashgram Panchayat Shri P.R. Singaram, Assistant Engineer of APWD Shri Manu Thomas shared their time with the students, giving away the Prizes. Proposing a vote of Thanks, the Head of the School, expressed gratitude to the CHC Diglipur, In charge of the stadium, the Police, Pradhan Subhashgram for their cooperation in making the Athletic Meet a grand success.

There were around 34 Athletic events, involving the participation of 692 students selected from different levels of trials, who displayed their sporting abilities. A large number of Parents and sports lovers turned up today to watch this regional school’s Mega Event.
