Port Blair, Jan 14: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) in collaboration with National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development, Port Blair conducted skill development training on “Freshwater Ornamental Fish Culture for Entrepreneurship Development” for the youths at ICAR-CIARI, Garacharma during 10-12 January, 2024. The training programme was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI. A total of 20 trainees comprising of 12 females and 8 males attended the training programme.

During the three-days, the participants were trained on various aspects like selection of candidate ornamental fishes, breeding, aquascaping, health management, tank fabrication, live feeds, feeding and hatchery management. Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Head, Division of Fisheries briefed about the business opportunities of ornamental fish farming in the Islands in his opening remarks. Dr. J. Praveenraj, Scientist and Course Director, along with Course Coordinators Dr. K. Saravanan & R. Kiruba Sankar imparted various skill development sessions on ornamental fish farming during the three days programme. The training programme received very positive feedbacks from the participants.
