Rangat, Jan 14: The Hon’ble Lt. Governor inaugurated the Forest Station Rangat, Middle Andaman on 13th Jan 2024 by unveiling of plaque followed by ceremonial plantation of Karanj (Milletia pinnata) in the Station premise. The Lt. Governor was briefed about the importance and usage of this initiative of the Department. He shared his experience on how a matter of 400 Kg venison (deer) was caught in South Andaman. He expressed his pleasure that now dealing Wildlife and Forest Offence cases through this Station will be easy and can be better monitored.

Taking advantage of this newly created resource, the management of wildlife and forests will be surely easy and effective. The mobile squad team will be permanently stationed in this new set up. Role of JPT and QRT will also be assimilated and will be done through this central unit of the Forests Division.

The Hon’ble governor took a round of whole building and asked on why handing and taking over of the building took so many years. This is to apprise that building construction started in year 2016-17 and completed in 2017-18 but Department got the possession last year only. Interestingly, this building was constructed in less than 24 % of the estimated budget amount.

Taking a view of existing conditions of the arms and ammunitions in the station, he advised to keep them in better shape and guns must be in ready to use condition all the time. He also advised to take help from Police Department for better upkeep and regular maintenance of arms.

The Hon’ble LG appreciated this initiative of the Department and guided to remain vigilant so that wildlife offences can be checked in absolute way.

The inauguration of the Station was done in the presence of Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Smt Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman, Dr Abdul Qayum, IFS Middle Andaman Division and other officials of Middle Andaman Division.
