Port Blair, Jan 14: In a move to amplify the reach of the Silver Jubilee Vice President of India Cup Football Tournament being held at Car Nicobar Island, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has urged Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, IAS, Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati, to facilitate live coverage of the crucial Semi-Final and Final matches.
In his letter, he added that the tournament, scheduled from January 9th to 18th, 2024, is taking place in Car Nicobar Island, dominated by Nicobari Tribal Community, where football holds a special place in their daily lives. Recognizing the cultural significance of football in the islands and its popularity, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has emphasized the emotional attachment of the Nicobari tribal inhabitants to this event.
Expressing the sentiments of the local population, he has requested Prasar Bharati to arrange live coverage of the Semi-Final and Final matches on January 16th, 17th, and 18th, 2024.
He urged to broadcast these matches not only through DD Port Blair but also on one of Prasar Bharati's National Channels. “This will provide extensive coverage to the State-level football tournament, showcasing the exceptional talent thriving in the tribal areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands,” he added.
