Postal Department Directed to Speed Up Delivery of New EPIC Cards

Port Blair, Jan. 17: To prevent impersonation/electoral fraud, Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) was introduced by the Election Commission of India in the year 1993 and with passage of time and in view of major advances of technology; the Commission has decided that the quality of cards, security features and other specifications should be further improved.

With these objectives, the ECI introduced new security features in EPIC. The new features like card size, thickness, hologram, Micro text, Ghost image, Guilloche patter, QR code etc. are enhanced in new EPIC Cards. Those electors who are registered during Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll-2023, in revision 2, 3, 4 of continuation updation and in final revision 2024 are eligible to get this new security features in EPIC.

The printed EPICs are distributed to electors through Department of Posts. For smooth and safe delivery of EPIC Cards to enrolled electors, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Posts, A&N Islands.

In this regard, the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Shri B S Jaglan, IAS called a meeting today with Postal Department, A&N Islands in his chamber, Secretariat, A&N Administration. The Post Master General of A&N Islands did not attend the said meeting due to some preoccupation. The Dy. Superintendent of Post, A&N Islands and electoral related officials attended the said meeting. Many more printed EPICs are on the way and are likely to be given to Department of Posts for distribution to electors.

The Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands directed Department of Posts to speed up the delivery of EPICs in view of the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha-2024.
