Port Blair, Jan 19: The Aberdeen Police Station’s dedicated team successfully cracked a challenging hit-and-run case through meticulous investigative work, leading to the apprehension of the Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle rider. The incident occurred on 17th Jan 2024, when the suspect fled the scene after colliding with a pedestrian near SBI ATM, close to the RTO Office.
In the evening of 17th Jan 2025, the Aberdeen Police Station received information regarding an incident in which an unidentified Royal Enfield rider recklessly hit a pedestrian in front of the SBI ATM near the Regional Transport Officer in Port Blair around 18:15 Hrs. The rider hastily fled the scene with the motorcycle after committing the crime. Promptly, an autorickshaw driver evacuated the injured person to G.B. Pant Hospital, where, unfortunately, the victim was declared brought dead after examination.
In response to the tragic event, an FIR under relevant Acts was swiftly registered at Police Station Aberdeen and the investigation into the matter was entrusted to SI Nixon Issac. A dedicated team led by SI Nixon, SI P Jeevan, HC Vinod Kumar, PC Jayraj, PC Surender Singh Yadav, PC Vijay Singh and PC Naw Elieen conducted a thorough search for the accused and the involved motorcycle.
The team displayed utmost professionalism as they meticulously reviewed numerous CCTV footages in the surrounding areas. Through their thorough investigation, they conclusively identified the involved motorcycle as Royal Enfield. Subsequently the team secured detailed information on the registered owners of all Royal Enfield motorcycles in the South Andaman District. In addition to this, the team members systematically inspected various garages and workshops. Owners were requested to promptly inform the authorities of any Royal Enfield motorcycles brought in for repair.
As a result, on the morning of 18th Jan 2024, a crucial breakthrough emerged, when the manager of Royal Enfield reported to the team that an individual had brought a Royal Enfield for repair. Acting swiftly, the team intercepted the accused and initiated a thorough interrogation. During questioning, the individual confessed to the crime and was subsequently arrested and the Royal Enfield with registration number AN01 S 9898 was seized. The collaborative efforts of the team along with the information from the vigilant Manager of Royal Enfield, played a pivotal role in swiftly resolving the case and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
The entire investigation took place under the guidance of Sh. Vikas Swami, IPS, Sub Divisional Police Officer, South Andaman and overall supervision of Smti Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
