Bangkok, Jan. 19: The Department of Fisheries and Department of Tourism, A&N Administration in association with the Indian Embassy, Bangkok organized an Investment Seminar on Fisheries and Tourism Sectors at Bangkok today. The seminar started with welcome address by H.E. Mr. Nagesh Singh, Ambassador of India to Kingdom of Thailand.

This was followed by Respected Shri Keshav Chandra, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration’s address to the gathering. He emphasized on the resources, opportunity and scope for expanding the Fisheries and Tourism Sectors in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He pointed out that Internet connection upgradation in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, may support in building the infrastructure in these sector. He invited investors in Deep Sea Tuna Fishing, Processing, and other related field for the Fisheries Sector considering the vast untapped potential.

The Chief Secretary also suggested that investors may consider to invest in the field of Tourism and Civil Aviation sector for better development of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He stated that there are four Islands namely Smith, Aves, Long Island and Shaheed Dweep which are to be developed in near future for opening luxury eco-tourism resorts. He also mentioned about holistic development of 11 tourism sites, for which work is in very advanced stage. He further emphasized the complementarity of tourism sector between Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Thailand.

Shri Vishwendra, Secretary, Fisheries, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Andaman and Nicobar Administration spoke in detail about the present status and potential for the development of Fisheries, Tourism and Civil Aviation in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It was emphasized in the presentation about creation of the brand of the Andaman in Fisheries Sector. Three detailed presentations were made on Fisheries, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

The delegates of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Thailand exchanged notes with each other for the forthcoming partnership envisaged in the Investor Seminar.

A total of 106 participants from Thailand and Andaman and Nicobar hailing from various sectors participated in the seminar and discussed issues relevant to the development in these sectors in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The seminar was attended by various Govt. officials of Indian Embassy notably Ploumi Tripathi, Deputy Chief Mission, Shri Dharmender Singh, First Secretary, Indian Mission. Officials of Departments like NIOT and MPEDA also attended.

The Investor Summit concluded with the vote of thanks by Shri Bhaskar Kalra, Commercial Attache to Indian Embassy.
